The Solar Village

The Solar Village

The Solar Village at Wonderfruit consists of a series of elevated geometric pod systems that designer Gregg calls Satellites, support by a climbing bench-like framework opposite a pyramidal stage. The pod system and stage are entirely connected by interlocking joints, beams, nodes, and contain no metal or fasteners to assemble. The entire structure is made from wood and comes together and apart like a three dimensional puzzle, a style of building essential to Gregg’s philosophy of what he calls “infinite architecture”.

Opposite the stage and overlooking the dance floor exists a kind of geometric grandstand, with individual pods, and connecting passageways, for viewers to gather with friends, to climb, and enjoy the spectacle of lights, and sounds, along with the breathtaking sunrise and sunset rituals that have become a cornerstone of this beautiful festival in the ancient forest, and countryside of Pattaya, Thailand.

What is the Architecture Of Infinity? Here we explore the geometric forms that expand infinitely in space. Using different assembly techniques we find that there are only a few shapes that we can build with that have unlimited potential for scaling. These shapes are also found in biological molecules and mirror the building blocks of life found everywhere in existence.

Architect Gregg Fleishman has been exploring these forms for decades and one of his most profound experiments can be found at Wonderfruit Festival in Thailand. Since the early days of the festival Gregg has designed the Solar Village, one of the main stages of the festival.
